The Best Valentine’s Day at Home Date Ideas in Baton Rouge

Let’s Stay in for Valentine’s Day

Let’s face it, we are living in a very face-paced world. With that everyday hustle and bustle, we all need to outsource as much as can. Work, chores, tasks, dishes, laundry all pile up faster than you can even create a plan to reduce the load. So as Valentine’s Day approaches, it goes without saying that you now are faced with another task on the “to-do” list. Add this to the constant fluctuation of COVID rates, and what is one to do. Let’s just STAY HOME! There are several ways to make this Valentine’s Day memorable without the risk of large crowds.

Here are my top five Valentine’s Day at home Iideas:

Hire a Private Chef

This is where you may be asking “How do I hire a chef for the perfect dining experience?” Hiring a private chef for Valentine’s Day is not only a unique idea, it also allows you to sit back and relax while avoiding crowds and the stress of cleaning up or even dressing up.  Now with the current pandemic, you also don’t have to worry about the social distancing practices of your favorite restaurant. By hiring a private chef, you have full control of your budget and the date (because who said you HAVE to celebrate ON February 14th?). My favorite is Chef Odom who may be found at Odom’s Kitchen.

Dinner and a Movie In

Give the kids their favorite foods and maybe a special snack, and then send them off to bed. Order your favorite dinner using a food delivery app, put on your favorite snuggly socks, rent a movie, and prepare your favorite drink.

Sundae Bar

This one involves the kiddos. Create a snack board and sundae bar with your kids and spread out on the floor picnic-style. Put on your favorite movie … and enjoy! (This can also be done with your mate.) Make a board and then everyone sits on the living room floor and eats picnic-style while watching a movie. Ice cream sundaes with all the fixings afterward. The kids will love it.

Prepared Valentine’s Day Packages

Check out your local grocery store boutiques. Many of them such as Fresh Market have prepared Valentine’s Day packages.

Bubble Bath

That’s right. Send the kids and partner to bed, light your favorite candle, and soak in your favorite bath time rituals (mine are found at Buff City Soap). I like to add a little Kenny G to the mix and try not to fall asleep.

Make it Happen Any Day!

Maybe Valentine’s Day isn’t your thing and maybe you want to have “The Private Experience” more than once a year. Good News! You can pick the right date, menu, or theme all year long. After all, any day is a good day to have a little fun.

D'Andra Bradford Odom grew up in Jonesboro, LA. She swore to her parents that she would never live in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, or Texas. However, after completing a cooperative education assignment with IBM in Rochester, MN, she bravely returned to Louisiana to plant her roots. D’Andra earned a Bachelors from Grambling State University in Grambling, LA and a Masters from the rival school Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA. However, the rivalry only lasts for one Saturday in November, the Saturday after Thanksgiving. D’Andra has a strong passion for public policy, social justice, and cooking. Therefore, it is no surprised that this self-proclaimed foodie met her husband, Chef Brandon Odom while trying a new spot, and ultimately co-founded Odom’s Kitchen (eatwithodoms.com). Together D’Andra and Brandon have two amazing children, Josiah and Corrinne. Josiah is the gentle and compassionate little gentleman. While Corrinne marches to the beat of her own drum. One of the things she loves most about being in Louisiana is providing her children with access to three living great-grandparents. Additionally, D’Andra and Brandon enjoy entertaining friends and family through food and laughs. She considers it an added bonus to be able to share and interact with other moms in the area. As it turns out this North Louisiana native found her roots through love in South Louisiana. A badge she wears proudly.
