You’re off to Kindergarten! {Things I Hope You Remember}

Off you go on this new adventure to kindergarten – you will learn a little more about the world around you and how things work. I have learned a few things since sending your brother off to kindergarten a short six years ago. Here are a few things, as your mom, I hope you remember.

  1. I won’t always be your best friend.

Goodness that was hard to write. You see since you were about two years old, I have ALWAYS been your best friend, maybe even your best friend in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD, as you say with your eyes wide open! I know that the time will come soon when you start meeting friends your age, and you will find that special person that will be your best friend. Its okay; you will need her. Even if I’m not your best friend, please remember though that I will always be your biggest fan, your support, and your shoulder to cry on.

  1. I want to know all the “little things” that happen at school.

You see Keilyn, little things matter to us moms. So let me hear it! I want to know if the class clown made a really funny joke or if your favorite teacher showed you something really cool or God Forbid that little boy pushed you down on the playground. I want to hear every detail of your day.

  1. It’s okay to have bad days.

The day you come home with a sad face because you had a day where you talked a bit too much during class, it is okay. We all make mistakes, even mommies, but we have to move on and move forward with our days. The only thing I ask is that you treat everyone like you want to be treated and react first in love towards everyone. You will have bad days, but if you are trying your best and showing love to your neighbors, we will all be okay.

  1. Have fun, play and be goofy!

There is a lot of pressure on kids these days, and as your parents we did our very best to find a school that encouraged you to play! I want you to play, act goofy with your friends and laugh until your side hurts. That, my girl, is when the best memories are made.

  1. You can be ANYTHING you want to be … and I expect it to change regularly.

Last I checked you wanted to be a doctor like Doc McStuffins, but I know that will change soon. You will be learning a lot over the next year. You will learn about science, social studies, and math. I hope that you learn a little bit about a lot of things and keep thinking about what you want to be when you grow up. Little one, you can be ANYTHING! A pop star? Maybe the next president? An artist? A professional athlete? A doctor? A teacher? Your options are endless! Enjoy your journey exploring and learning.

Overall, I hope you learn to be you, whomever you may be. I hope you make some new friends and have days filled with sunshine and rainbows. Remember to show love and acceptance to your classmates and teachers. Tell your teachers thank you for investing in you; I know I will.

Off you go to kindergarten. I know you are ready! I am excited to see you grow.

Tiffany is happily married to her high school sweetheart, Desmond. Together they get to play the roles of Mommy and Daddy to Micah, a gifted Math Wiz of a teenager who is always making people laugh, and Keilyn, a spunky, flower loving, dancing girl who will stop and talk to anyone she meets. She was born and raised in Baton Rouge and has Cajun blood running through her veins. She works full time outside of the home in business administration. She started the journey of motherhood young but wouldn’t have it any other way. Her children have taught her to laugh, play and that sometimes it’s ok not to have a plan! She has a passion for teenagers and is an active mentor in her church’s youth group. In her rare free time she enjoys shopping, coffee, and date nights with her husband. She believes that everyone has a story to tell and enjoys meeting new people, making people laugh, and spending time with friends and family.
