But, with this time of year comes that nagging concern about water safety. You may start to see viral stories resurface on social media or news outlets reportcases of “dry drowning,” triggering fear among parents that one accidental gulp at the pool could be fatal days later. It’s a parent’s worst nightmare, and one that’s easily relatable. How many times has one of your kids taken in some water while swimming? It’s pretty common! Drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional death in children ages 1-4 and ages 10-14 years. While most infant drownings occur in bathtubs, most childhood...
Different scenarios for many people have me feeling not so alone. Sometimes many of us have different father & mother figures. I was/am lucky enough to have my dad and his dad, my Papa Bud. I will not lie. It hurts and still does that my papa is not here to be at every holiday, every birthday party, every birth of my children, every graduation, and beyond. My Papa Bud could talk to anyone about anything, and he could talk for hours. My dad does the same. That is where I get my personality from. In January of 2016, I got the phone call that Papa had passed away. We knew he was not doing well for about two years prior, even...
Coaching and motherhood are a lot alike. There are so many things that go on behind the scenes that people don’t know about. The long hours, the stress, the time management, the worry, I could go on and on. There is such a lack of appreciation. In both, there is so much judgment, from people that have no idea what they are talking about. You deal with Facebook / couch coaches that judge you for every decision you make. They’ve never been a coach, some (and by some, I mean most) of them have not even played the game before. Same goes with motherhood, everyone has their opinions (most of which are unsolicited). They sit and watch (judge) from...
Being a momma of four isn't always easy. I have had to learn how to diffuse lots of different situations in my house. One of the biggest issues in our house is sibling fights/arguments. If you are a mom of multiples, you know what I'm talking about. "Moooommmmmmmm, he is looking at me! Mommmmmmmmmmm, he has my toy! Mommmmmmmm, she is in my room!" If you don't hear these things constantly, please teach me your ways! So, over the last four and a half years, I have had some time to get creative. When things start getting heated in our house, there a few things that I do to help distract everyone, and maybe even get them to do...
