There’s so much talk about COVID-19 in the present, but what about once we can leave our homes again?  Moms are going to need a break. They are going to need to decompress. Now, before the “they’re your kids group” starts protesting, KNOW THIS.... we love our children. And truthfully, there are very few people we trust more than ourselves with them. However, just like a good workout, rest is necessary.  Personal time is necessary. So when the Social Distancing is lifted, reach out to a mom.  She will need you.  It doesn’t matter if she is a single mom, a married mom, a mom living with her mom, a rich mom, or an economically disadvantaged mom...she will need you. ...
I was on autopilot. Living my life one bad habit after the other. Everyone is guilty of this from time to time. We get tired, fall into ruts, and go about our days going through the same monotonous routines over and over again. Our brains just “shut off” and we sometimes create bad habits without even realizing it. My daughter came home and cried to me one day saying that she was having a lot of really bad days lately. I was also having a lot of really bad days lately. Was she having bad days because I was having bad days? Was it just a coincidence? Were we creating our own bad days? Either way, there we were, having...
I am sure you are reading this while sitting inside of your home, probably hiding from your family members or maybe even dreading tomorrow and all of its boredom. We are all feeling very isolated and anxious. This is not an ideal situation for anyone, and making the best of it is all we can do. We still need to practice self-care for our mental health, however, now the ways we seek that out might look a little different. The thing that matters most is taking care of ourselves to take care of those around us. I am determined to make this time count as time well spent. I thought I would share some ideas in case these days...
The desire to help our friends and neighbors is engrained in our culture, but how can we do this in a safe way now that we have the shelter in place mandate? Do you work for a medical office that has been temporarily closed down? Does your school Biology lab have unopened supplies? Maybe you have some protective gear still in packages in your shed from the BR flood? This is what we need to know if we want to donate supplies/PPE (personal protective equipment) to our local hospitals at this time! Our hospitals' main needs are: Surgical Masks N95 Masks Face Masks Face Shields Goggles Isolation Gowns/Shoe Covers Hand Sanitizer Bleach Wipes Germicidal Wipes Nitrile Gloves D Cell Batteries for ventilators These...
Right now, we social distancing from our son. I want to hug him goodnight. I want to give him a high-five when he finishes his school assignments. After I stepped back when he tried to hug me yesterday, he said: "I'm lonely." It's incredibly tough not to be able to wrap your kid in your arms, especially at a time like this. He has Cystic Fibrosis. As tough as staying away from him is, it is for his protection. Before anyone had any idea about COVID-19 and that we would be living during a pandemic, my own home had infectious disease fears. People we come in contact with are considered possibly dangerous. Hand sanitizing, mask-wearing, fear whenever we hear a cough,...
