Disclosure: Our First Birthday Fete: Eat, Escape, Enjoy was held at the beautiful Baton Rouge Gallery and our evening wouldn’t have been so amazing without our wonderful community sponsors: Street Breads, Indie Plate, Associates in Pediatric Dentistry, Fresh Kitchen, Avant Tous, Whole Foods, Leroy’s, Sweet Sentiments, Plum and Violet, Mimosa by m.e., Petite Perfections, Jamberry, and Room For Dessert. Our event on November 12th surely brought the chilly weather right along with it, but that didn’t stop us from having a GREAT time. It actually made for the perfect gathering of 150 beautiful moms in a cozy space to enjoy amazing food, wine and each other’s company. Thank you all so much for making the time (especially for getting a...
My husband and I have always strived to teach our children to love and live the local culture. In Baton Rouge, that means tailgating. Both of my children were around six months old for their first tailgates, and as soon as my daughter could express herself she started referring to many fall Saturdays as "LSU all day day." I wouldn't want it any other way. Some people think tailgating is only for crazy college kids, established companies and/or those lucky enough to have an RV in Touchdown Village. That is just not true. I am here to tell you that tailgating with a family is possible and, quite honestly, pretty fun. Like so many other events pre and post parenthood,...

Each year around Labor Day, approximately 115 cities around the country hold the Rally to Improve Birth sponsored by ImprovingBirth.org. This year, Baton Rouge held it's 3rd annual rally, and I was lucky to be invited to participate as a co-coordinator along with Hannah Birchman (mother of 6 and Coordinator of the Baton Rouge Chapter of the International Cesarean Awareness Network) and Amy Shamburger (mother of 3 and Administrator of the Louisiana Natural Birth group). More than 135 men, women, and children fought the heat and came together to "stand in support of evidence based maternity care and the right of women to make their own informed decisions about how to give birth". So, what's wrong with birth and why...
