Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few years you've heard the term paleo. Recently "Paleo" has become a buzz word across the internet, gyms and health food stores alike. While highly popular among Cross Fit enthusiasts, the Paleo Diet has become more and more popular among moms searching for healthier eating habits and increased energy. The Paleo Diet is short for Paleolithic Diet and is commonly referred to as the caveman diet. This diet, while not totally intended for weight loss is more of a lifestyle change which transitions one to eating mostly vegetables, fruits, roots, nuts and seeds, healthy fats and meats. Like many mainstream diets the Paleo lifestyle encourages decreasing intake of sugar,...
Sharing Is NOT Caring :: The Exploitation of Children on Facebook It was an ordinary day. I was casually checking my Facebook messages when I was stopped in my tracks. The message read: "I just wanted to let you know that someone is using your son's image to gain likes on Facebook." Included with the message was a link to that certain someone. Holding my breath, I clicked the link and there was my sweet boy, Connor. The photo was from 2011 during one of his routine EEGs that he received yearly to monitor his seizure activity. Along with his photo was a caption that read, "Nobody care to pray for Farnando - Can he even get your 1 Like, Amen, and Share." This someone...
Fall is here (even though in south Louisiana it is hard to tell)! With it comes pumpkin spice and all things nice. This is often one of the busiest times of year for families, and as a mom time is hardly ever on our side. In between chauffeuring kids, cooking meals, working jobs, and being wives it can be far too easy to slip into a style rut. So here are a few tips of the season to help you "fall" into style.  Colors of the season: This season the...
I used to be a boy mom. My first two babies are sons who are, like all boys, dirty, messy, and loud. And while I can’t say I love all of the dirt and noise, I had come to a point where I embraced boy-momhood and all it had to offer. And then I got pregnant with my girl. Having my daughter brought out a side of me I didn’t know was still there. The need for fashion! For accessories! For hair bows and jewelry and shoes -- GOOD LORD the shoes!! I started when I was pregnant. Ralph Lauren, Gap, Gymboree. And then one day a friend invited me to a Matilda Jane Trunk show. It was then and there that...
Rules that create independent children seem like an oxymoron. Rules are usually seen as a way to constrict or limit what a child can and cannot do, but when used correctly rules can be a tool to develop independence in children. I want my children to grow up and not have to rely on Mama and Daddy, so we've implemented a few rules in our household to give them a start on that long road to self-reliance. And a little perk is that most of these rules make my life easier NOW. Yes please! (A little disclaimer: These are age appropriate for my eight-year-old and five-year-old. I wouldn't suggest these exact rules for a toddler or teenager! Modify as needed.) Rule...
