Disclosure: This post is part our series in observance of World Breastfeeding Week and is sponsored by Woman’s Hospital.  Six Lessons Breastfeeding Taught Me About Parenthood The moment that I began to try to breastfeed, lessons of what parenthood was going to be like started flooding in. There were disappointments, victories, and everything in between. These themes that apply to both breastfeeding and parenting have presented themselves over and over again: 1. You cannot control everything so be flexible. This one is big. I never really even considered NOT breastfeeding. The health benefits were my biggest reason but I also wanted the closeness with our baby that came with breastfeeding. On top of it all, it just made sense financially. My husband and I...
Disclosure: This post is part our series in observance of World Breastfeeding Week and is sponsored by Woman’s Hospital.  The New Mom's {Honest} Guide to Breastfeeding When I was pregnant with my first, we were kind of on the fence about breastfeeding. I’d heard all the info, done some research, but I just wasn’t ready to board the train. I had a friend that had tried and had been unsuccessful and another friend that just had no interest in trying. We decided we’d give it a go and if it didn’t work out, we’d move on. Well, baby came and we fell in love. And then my milk came in. Y’all. I went from being a voluptuous woman to Pam Anderson...
It’s been a long, hot summer and my girls and I were coming off of a two week period of being stuck at the house because of sickness and surgery recovery. We all hit our breaking point, and the only thing that seemed to offer me an hour without whines of boredom was the iPad. They definitely ask, but the answer is almost always, “Go play with your toys.” So, I guess my threshold for refusing electronics is seven weeks of summer vacation, because I finally said yes. It would ensure a much needed hour of quiet,...
You say the word teen to a parent of a young child and their heart skips a beat. You mean my little chunky boo bear is going to be a TEENAGER soon? There goes my nightly snuggles and being your best friend, soon you will hate me. Maybe those were just MY thoughts…I have been told I am a little dramatic! Although, parenting a teen is different. I am here to say that it is a lot of fun. My son turned 13 a few months ago. I think pre-teen life was way harder. For us, 11 and 12 were rough. The attitude, entitlement and rough social scenarios ran throughout our home. We talked, hugged and processed a lot together....
Dear Mama with the Phone, I know that your phone is important to you. Mine is important to me as well. Your kids are cute, they say cute things and do cute dances while you are driving. My children do the same. I am often tempted to grab my phone and video for "just a second." I don't, though. I just cannot justify what your reasoning would be for why you think it’s a good idea to drive while videoing. Can you please explain it to me? Singing songs together with your kids is wonderful. Those are precious memories that you and your children will both remember. I have a suggestion: put the phone down and enjoy that time. While sharing...
