One of the first things I did after hearing "It's a girl" was to go shopping for clothes, of course! Being a girl mom often means having to stop yourself from buying ALL. THE. THINGS. And there are so many fabulous things. Living in the South only amplifies the need desire to have a picture perfect, smocked and bonneted little girl. But at some point in the terrific 2s, many of those sweet little girls develop opinions and want to pick their own clothes. At which point we moms have a decision to make: Set the standard from the start that mom picks the clothes or make like Elsa and "let it go".

“A-B-C-D…” well, you know the rest. The song played from my one year old daughter’s new magnetic alphabet bus toy as I picked up the letters off the floor again for the millionth time to put them back on the fridge. She was pressing the musical note button over and over, while spinning to the Alphabet and Wheels on the Bus. I had already showed her how to place a letter in the open spot on the bus and it would sing a little jingle about that letter. She was more interested in the noise those letters made as they hit the tile floor one by one and of course the songs.

I look forward to every New Year because it feels like the slate has been wiped clean. It’s a time to reflect and start over (if need be). And boy do I need a re-do. 2015 was a year full of promises and “I’ll get to its” and good intentions on my part. I wanted so badly to change a few key things within myself and by March, I failed. In 2016, I want to finish what I started in 2015. I won’t call them resolutions because resolutions never get accomplished, so instead I will call this my Plan of Action. My husband and I recently celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary. As the date draws closer every year I’m always amazed at how, yet again, it seems as time has flown by. When we took our wedding vows on a rainy November day, we promised to become partners in life, and we have been from day one. New houses, new jobs, new cars, new bills; we’ve been through it all. More than any other daily life obstacle or celebration, the birth of our children and becoming parents has tested and strengthened our marriage the more than any other.

I don't breathe deeply enough.
"Take a deep breath" is so easy to ignore when I'm going or planning or worrying or cooking or working or feeding or cleaning or driving or... you can fill in the blank. I need this air to live and most of the time I'm breathing so shallow, not taking enough of it in. That's not good. We're supposed to breathe deeply to calm down and even to manage pain and I HAVE to do it to survive, so how can I forget to just do it better? One quick Google search and I find this. (I did NOT know there was an American Institute of Stress! Cool.)
