Who Knew That Some Paper Hearts Could Give So Much Grace?!?

Y’all-I saw someone on a Facebook post that they put paper hearts on their kid’s door every day in February. You write on the heart a reason you love them. I know, I know one more thing to do. It’s like the Valentine’s version Elf on a Shelf. Just hear me out!

I have four kids and a husband. Each one gets a heart on their bedroom door. I just started this on February 1st for the very first time. This week in particular has been tough. The meltdowns, the pent-up energy, the screaming, the hitting, and the listening ears not working. I’ve stayed overstimulated! I sat down last night and had to truly rack my brain to find a reason why I love each one of them. Yes, you read that right. I sat down on my bed frustrated, sad, and with chest pain last night because of the way our afternoon panned out. I was exhausted and just plain mad-I didn’t want to do the hearts, but I had started it, and gosh darn it, I was going to finish them!

Y’all-I took the first heart and started with the child that I was least angry at. I dug down deep, and I found a reason that I love him. Then the next one and the next one and the next one. When I finished those 4 hearts, MY HEART was healed. I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders. I felt all of my anger dissolve and the love come back to my heart. I was able to go to bed with a clear, happy heart. Did it help with my mom guilt? No. But it helped me to forgive the afternoon we had. It helped me forgive myself and my kids.

Who would have thought that 4 paper hearts could do so much? When they woke up and found their hearts, smiles spread across their faces. We had a better morning because of those hearts. I want to say to any mom that is having trouble seeing her joy, her blessings, and her kid’s attributes-try this activity. You don’t have to cut your hearts; you can go buy pre-made hearts from the dollar store but try it. It will bring JOY back into your life! Promise!!!!
