A few weeks ago, I was listening to a nationally syndicated country morning show after I dropped the kids off at daycare. They were interviewing an artist, asking him what his road trip necessities were. Listening to their conversation got me thinking. Thinking about family vacations when I was a kid brought out loads of nostalgia. When I was a kid, our summer vacations were always camping trips. We camped a lot in East Texas and those trips are remembered fondly by me and my siblings. Traveling to our destination was half the fun. Our trips included paper maps (gasp!), sandwiches and snacks (see fudge rounds, sunflower seeds and chips) put together by my mom and music picks by my dad....
Disclosure :: This post is sponsored and genuinely written from my own experience. Five Reasons to Visit Your Local Credit Union #1 :: It's Never Too Early To Learn Who says finances are just for adults? I say no way jose! I don’t think I’m in the minority when I say that because I know many other parents who also wish there was more implementation of life skills and finances throughout elementary and high school (Home Ec, anyone?) Balancing a check book? What’s that? It was something we had to learn to do "back in the day" to keep track of bank accounts…y’all remember that! Of course as parents, we will strive to teach our kids about these skills but how about...
Multi-tasking. Outside of laundry and cleaning bathrooms, it is the bane of my existence. I hate multi-tasking. So why do I? I do this out of necessity, not out of love for it. I truly wish I had more time in the day – more time to clean, fold clothes, prepare meals, prepare for the next day, cuddle with both of the kids at separate times, play with them, sit down to eat a meal, spend more time building robots and playing pretend with the toddler, exercising ... and the list goes on and on. I wish I could sit down and have a conversation with my husband in the evening, giving him all of my attention and energy...

Room to Grow

I picked my son up from school the other day and asked him to usual, "How was school today?" He explained that they took a quiz in one of his classes to see if they had a fixed mindset or a growth mindset. He said that he has a growth mindset, which he was excited about. "What does that mean?" I asked.  He said, "It means that you think you can keep growing and learning and getting better at things." I looked it up and started reading more about the fixed vs. growth mindset. In the fixed mindset, there are things that people tell themselves about what they are and aren't good at. They believe that is the way that they are,...
Let me start by saying this, we are a TV family. Our nights at home consist of dinner then a show or movie as a family. We all LOVE it. I won’t even mention how often ESPN was on our TV – I mean we live in Baton Rouge, y’all #geauxtigers! A few weeks ago, as we were going over our budget, I looked at my husband and told him we spent WAY too much on cable, it was honestly ridiculous. He just looked back and said “ok, then let’s cancel it.” WHAT? No, I mean I wasn’t going crazy here, I just meant we needed to call said company and negotiate our bill. After I calmed down a little,...
