Self-help is a genre of reading that I usually gravitate to. They can be motivating, eye-opening, affirmative, and useful for different areas of my life. It can be a overwhelming genre since every single book promises a better life and thought process. I have read really BAD self-help books. Some have even made me feel even worse about myself when I was done. Some I quit after a chapter or two. A good self-help book "clicks" with you pretty early on. I have found myself reading things in these books and saying "Yes!!!" out loud because finally someone gets me! I really did like Girl, Go Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis. It took me 3 days on a beach...
A year ago last December, I started on a journey. We moved to Baton Rouge a little over a year before then, and as I was in the long process of unpacking, I could not find the bathroom scale. I decided this was a pleasant thing to lose and thought I would just enjoy life without one. But since my clothes were feeling more snug and my face looked fuller, I looked for the scale a little more diligently, and unfortunately found it. I hopped on and was surprised to see I was at my highest non-pregnancy weight. I knew I needed to change my habits and my relationship with food.  It took me a few weeks to decide what...
All my life I have enjoyed the gift giving aspect of holidays. I love that you can share your time and thoughts with a loved one through the celebration of a gift exchange. I might have even put just a little too much heart into it as I was a teenager. I can remember getting my feelings hurt when friends didn’t put quite the same amount of effort into gift giving as I did. As I grew older, gifts themselves became less and less of a meaningful thing, and I began to understand that it was really the thought behind them that really triggered all my warm fuzzy feelings. Less became more and quality became MUCH more important than quantity. Then I...
When looking for a new activity or family outing, I often turn to my family and friends for inspiration. If my fellow moms or best friends suggest it, then it must be good, right? That’s why I put together three things I am loving right now to hopefully introduce something new to you and your family. Red Stick Farmers Market With the cooler weather here, I’m finding our family is spending more and more time outside. One of the ways we love to spend Saturday mornings outside is at the Red Stick Farmers Market. Located downtown on Main Street, this market is home to local farmers selling delicious local produce and meat. From Louisiana strawberries to local grass-fed beef, you can...

Healthy Kids, Happy Kids

People often comment on how well my children eat; how surprised they are to see my children eat fresh veggies and fruits as a preferred snack.  It got me thinking the other day about how I used to be a lot more strict about diet when I first became a parent. We needed to be strict because my first born suffered from a lot of food allergies. While we were at the start of figuring out how or why he had eczema from head to toe, we did a lot of elimination from his diet. And we had to get quite creative with his meals and snacks.  While his buddies were eating animal crackers, my son was eating frozen green peas....
