Some of my absolute favorite things about fall are the colors, weather change, and introduction to the holidays! Fall is a time when people become cheerful (is it because it’s getting less hot?) and unified around pumpkins and football. People begin thinking of giving and gifting. Football season rolls in and for Baton Rouge, that means Saints and LSU games! Who doesn’t love a good tailgate? Here are some of my favorite things to bring to a tailgate/holiday party: Bacon wrapped dates These are some of my favorites in a pinch. 2-3 ingredients and ready in under 20 minutes. Although best served warm, they are allergy friendly and DELICIOUS! Brownies/cookies My favorite brownies are the gluten-free boxed brownies from Trader Joe’s! My...
I have a few things to say, but I know everyone came here for the recipes. So I’ll do y’all a solid so you don’t have to scroll for years to find the recipes… I’m not sure if it’s because this is the first year where I feel like things are getting back to normal but WHEW, am I the only one that can’t get into the swing of things yet? Between juggling school drop off, daycare drop off, a full-time job, household duties, laundry, and school/daycare pick up … it’s just nonstop. Even typing that makes me exhausted and I know I’m missing SO many things. I haven’t even mentioned after-school activities or feeding the family. Something had to...
We are truly in the dog days of summer here in South Louisiana. Just coming back from San Diego, I long for the cooler days & nights again. To stay cool this summer, my family and I will be hitting the pool constantly. Moms always have snacks and bring them everywhere – even the pool! Here are some of my favorite poolside snacks, and the best part … some are easy! 1.  Fruit Salsa with Cinnamon Sugar Pita Chips INGREDIENTS Peaches, peeled and diced Mango, cored and diced Kiwis, peeled and diced Strawberries, diced 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice 2 tablespoons honey 2 tablespoons fresh basil chopped 1/4 cup granulated sugar 1 tsp cinnamon 4 large whole wheat pita chips coconut oil...
Louisiana cookin’ in my house is a staple. Almost every night we are cooking something with carbs, whether it be rice, pastas or potatoes. The house smells like roux most days. The problem is? Mama has been eating healthy nine years now. Yes, I have cheat meals, but I try not to. How do I do it and still eat what everyone else is eating at the dinner table? I try not to cook something separately than what everyone else is eating because who has time for that?! My favorite products/hacks are below: Seeds of Change Quinoa & Brown Rice - I have to start with this one first! Yep, I still eat my gumbo and jambalaya. I either eat this with a...
It is comical that I, a mom free of any culinary ability, would offer up a recipe blog. You should probably not ask me for advice on how to make dinner for your children. Even crockpot meals intimidate me. But thanks to my mom, who has become quite the cook, I have mastered making bacon. So, if I can make perfect bacon, so can you. Because perfect bacon really is divine. Buy the good stuff. Thick-cut slices of bacon are where it’s at. Wright’s applewood bacon is my personal fave, although Wrights Hickory Bacon will also do. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Then loudly discourage your toddlers from touching the oven as it heats up.            ...
