Dear Disney, We Need to Talk We recently took our kids to Disney World, and, well, I have some notes. To quote a favorite TV show, “first of all, how dare you?” As a mom in her 40s with young kids (geriatric pregnancies amiright?), I’ve noticed some things about Disney World that the younger parents may not be as aware of. Here is my open letter to Disney, let's hope they can do better.  We stayed on property and while, sure it was convenient and it was nice to get dropped off right at the gates, the hotel room had some issues. Why, why do you have the lights so bright in the bathroom? Before this “vacation,” I knew I had a...
Tackling Memories - Not Just Opponents In the South, football season is sacred. For our family, it's a time for bonding, cheering and making unforgettable memories. Our excited yells echo through our home and field, fueling excitement from kickoff to final whistle. Flag football Saturdays bring us together. My tiny Knight, Jack, dons his gold and black jersey, eager to emulate his heroes. Jack even taught us his touchdown dance. We snack on nachos, hot dogs, and Powerade – Football staples. The football field transforms into a stadium, with cheers, laughter and occasional referee disputes. Jack’s game days are sacred rituals. We gather at the field with our folding chairs and umbrellas. Jacob's "Geaux Knights!" chants rival my decibel-shattering cheers. I referee...

Happy Halloween :: Our Family’s Spook-tacular Celebration Halloween in our household is a whirlwind of excitement, anxiety, and Pokémon-themed everything! My tiny Pokémon trainers, Jack and Jacob, are bursting with anticipation. This year, we're going full-on Pokémon – costumes, pumpkins, and all. I hope you can find us. I'm a nervous wreck, though. Jacob's convinced his wings will actually make him fly. He said he can’t wait to wear his costume (bathroom-friendly) to school and fly off after recess. Jacob thinks there’s a remote control that will turn on the wings we made from foam and duct tape. I’m scared to be optimistic that he will wear a costume on Halloween. Jack’s costume had to be on theme for BIG kids...
How Carter is Changing the World: Honoring my Son’s Memory by Building Awareness of GRI Disorders April 14, 2016, was the best day of our lives. For my husband, Casey, and I, the date marked the end of 36 weeks of waiting to meet our child. We decided not to find out our baby’s gender before the birth—I’ll never forget hearing my husband yell out “It’s a boy!” when our when our Carter Keith came into the world. I finally knew what perfection was, as he lay on my chest, staring up at me on the first day of his life. We could never have predicted that our worlds would turn upside down multiple times over the years that followed—first...
