If you are looking to purchase something for the mom friend in your life, here are some things all moms secretly want this holiday season. Power Cords Give a girl a spare phone charger. Maybe one of those traveling battery packs too. Oh, and a phone charger for the car while you’re at it. Make it a three pack. And if she is a mom to anyone 7 years or older, double it. This can help prevent the “talk fast my phones about to die” syndrome. You don’t know what I’m talking about? Call one of your mom friends … Sunglasses Nothing fancy. Think trade show freebies or swag bags from races. No mom ever has sunglasses when they need them WHERE they...
It's dinner time, and the decision has been made to order takeout. What a relief, right? One less thing for this tired mama to worry about. But, wait. They want me to tell them what I want to order and from where. Yeah, I can't do that, and here's why. 1. 50% of my time away from work is spent coordinating the food in my family. I am in charge of creating the menu, making the lists, choosing which fruits and vegetables that I want to rot in the bottom drawers of the fridge, etc. I have officially depleted my food-related decision making capabilities for the week. 2. I just spent two hours scouring apps for coupons and setting my Target...
A few months ago, I wrote about our struggle with whether to send our July baby to kindergarten or red-shirt her. We ultimately decided to go ahead and enroll her in kindergarten. After lots of in depth discussions with her daycare director and 2 months of speech therapy, we were confident that she was ready. It's been one month, and I'm even more certain that kindergarten was the right choice. Our daughter has learned so much, and we love her teachers and school. Thankfully, she's excited to go to school each day and has adjusted to her new school with no issues. Me on the other hand? That's a different story. It turns out that I am the one who...
Many years ago, I read "Laugh, Kookabura" by one of my favorite authors, David Sedaris. Of course, I found many things about that particular essay to be funny, but one portion of it has stuck with me all this time and has only recently become relevant in my life. In the story, David meets a woman named Pat who asks him to picture a four-burner stove. She tells him, “One burner represents your family, one is your friends, the third is your health, and the fourth is your work.” She then goes on to tell him that you can only be successful if you turn off one of the burners, but to be really successful you have to turn off two...
For me, the hardest part about being a working mom is missing my kids - simple as that. And I think most of my fellow working moms would agree. Because of this, we usually have pictures framed on our desk or tacked to our board because we miss those faces. Something I saw recently got me thinking of how I could create a statement art piece for my office that incorporates my boys on the cheap. And it came to me - get my kids to make it! Having pictures of your kids is wonderful, but when I see their artwork, I just melt. I already have an element of this that I started anytime my kids come to visit...
