When I was younger, I tried out several sports: basketball, softball, cheer-leading, volleyball, swimming, you name it. I had no idea what my interests were, let alone my skill set! My patient parents let me and my three siblings try out whatever was in season, awaiting the day that I learned that basketball wasn't for me.  I learned so much in the process! To this day I can impress my unsuspecting boys with my knowledge of sports, albeit thin. I'm a regular Jane of all trades, master of none. This comes in handy, especially with my oldest, who will switch from learning the butterfly stroke to fielding grounders to perfecting his putting quickly enough to give us whiplash.  He wants to...
Swimming: It's More than Just a Summer Sport! Disclosure :: This post is sponsored by Crawfish Aquatics.  Most children stay busy with many activities. And as parents, you often want them to experience a myriad of activities to see where they can thrive, gather up different skills and stay active and social. No doubt, your children will likely take part in many activities during their younger years, but swimming (lessons and team) is the activity that will give them a LIFE-SAVING SKILL! Although the weather is not exactly cooling off in south Louisiana, talk of Fall sports and back to school activities are the conversational buzz. Many parents view swimming as something to “check off the list” for the Summer months and are...
A friend sent me a quote the other day that read “Your body is not Amazon Prime. It’s not going to show up in 2 days. There is no magic pill. Do the work. Be patient. Focus on your goals. Change WILL happen.” The quote has been one I’ve been living by since she sent it. We live in a world where we can’t work for what we want and wait for the results. We’re impatient people. I don’t know about you, but I’m guilty of working out and eating healthy for a week and assuming I’ll be skinny and healthy at the end of it, then reverting back to my old ways because I wasn’t so “what’s the point.” A...
Exactly one month ago, I started on my Whole30 journey. The beginning of this year was pretty rough for my family and myself. In the span of a week, I lost my mother, my uncle, and we moved into our new house. It was devastating and stressful to say the least. The lack of routine, emotional eating, and a broken refrigerator when we moved in accounted for some very poor health choices. I had heard about this program called Whole30 from a few different people. One of the program’s tag lines is “losing a parent is hard, having a baby is hard, drinking your coffee black is not hard.” Well, I had dealt with the first two things in the...
The idea of taking a spin class has always intrigued me, but the thought of committing 45 minutes to a hard intense workout where you’re stuck on a bike made me nervous. I mean I don’t even know how to ride a real bike so that just adds to the anticipation of the pain I’d feel the next day. But the other day I took the plunge and I am now obsessed. Here are a few things I learned from my first few classes and what you can expect when you go to yours! Go as hard as YOU can go: What I didn’t know going into it was that you can go at your own pace; everyone has different levels...
