Coaching and motherhood are a lot alike. There are so many things that go on behind the scenes that people don’t know about. The long hours, the stress, the time management, the worry, I could go on and on. There is such a lack of appreciation. In both, there is so much judgment, from people that have no idea what they are talking about. You deal with Facebook / couch coaches that judge you for every decision you make. They’ve never been a coach, some (and by some, I mean most) of them have not even played the game before. Same goes with motherhood, everyone has their opinions (most of which are unsolicited). They sit and watch (judge) from...
The Funky Bunch My friends and I have tailgated in the same spot for ten years. 2020 would have been the eleventh. It started as a way to stay connected in the wake of graduating from college and not having the go-to sorority and fraternity tents to flock to. It started with an ice chest, a couple of bags of chips, and a scattering of our parents’ tailgate chairs that were too few in number for everyone to sit comfortably. That year the tailgate gained some tents, a grill, and a cover charge.  At one point there was a great blow-up tiger, so you could say that things escalated quickly. That first year transformed into a social club of sorts...

I am here to tell you about how I’m burying 2019 and the past decade in general. They kicked my butt … my mama butt, my relationship butt, my work-life butt, figuratively, all of my butts … BUT … they’re over! As I was watching that historical championship, I recognized something very simple about life and how I can make 2020 not only my year...
It was the talk of every holiday get-together that year. Between the glittery attire and bourbon breaths, I could hear his name over and over again followed by a labored sigh or a mighty roll of the eye. The storied Les Miles had been fired earlier that year, and the interim coach was no longer interim – he had been hired by LSU. No one I encountered was happy about the decision; words like “embarrassing,” “humiliating,” “joke” were interwoven through the discussions. At times I felt the criticisms had less to do with his tenure at LSU or his overall resume. Conversations about Coach O were usually tinged with jabs at his accent, his overall demeanor, and his ability...
