I’m dropping time management advice from some of my single mom friends below. Fun fact: I had to remind most of these ladies to text me back two or three times. I guess you can take that as a lesson itself: Prioritize what actually matters ???? Also, something I’ve learned about time management is to acknowledge where you thrive. Don’t get bogged down by not waking up way before your kids, not keeping an Insta-worthy planner, not meditating, or anything else you’ve seen in an infographic online. I tried to keep a perfect planner book and workout before the sun came up all through college. I learned that I strived better with a calendar on my phone that I could change...
1. A Planner:: A good planner does a world of good. Mine has a block calendar in the front and then a detailed day view along with a to-do list to help keep my house at a manageable level. It’s from the Passionate Penny Pincher and it’s literally been a game-changer. Find the perfect planner for you and use it! Knowing what is coming in the next month, week, and days helps me so much to know what to expect with minimal surprises. 2.Quick Pick-Ups:: Two 15 minute pick-ups a day. Put on some jams and set a timer for 15 minutes. Pick up and put up whatever you can in those 15 minutes. This does a wonder for not having random...
The second I feel like I’ve got a category of motherhood down, I get thrown through a loop. Either our schedule changes or my daughter hits a new phase. Motherhood is an ever-changing journey. However, I do feel like I’ve consistently had the cleanup category just short of mastered. I realized early on that how my house looks has a huge impact on my mood and patience. I care about my home feeling like a refuge, not a place where I see a huge to-do list the second I walk in the door. On the same note, I want to spend more time being home, not cleaning my home. We've gotten pretty good with efficiency around here. Here’s how: Toy Rotation I...
The home we currently live in has gone through three renovations. We just wrapped up the third, and the second largest in the house at 1,700 sq. foot. While the house looks great, there were a lot of bumps along the way. Renovating a home is not like an HGTV design show where a crew comes in to knock down a wall or two, paint goes up, you have fun with all of the finishes, and you come in under budget. It is a long, messy, stressful project that can get away from you if you let it. Get At Least 3 Bids Before Choosing a Contractor It is important to get more than one bid so that you can compare...
Feeling overwhelmed keeping up with your day to day activities? Do you or your significant other work weird inconsistent hours? Do your children have so many extracurricular events that you cannot possibly manage to remember every detail? I feel you. We all have a lot going on day to day. We work part-time, full time, have pets, multiple kids, a partner in crime, homes to clean, and mouths to feed ... so how can we manage it all without becoming overwhelmed adult terrors? Adult beverages. The answer is always adult beverages. Just kidding (not really) - a calendar. Getchu a family calendar and kiss one piece of your overwhelming puzzle goodbye. I have a family dry erase calendar on our...
“Leave the mess, they’re only little for so long!” “Let them be little, they’re only that way for a little while!” “Messy house, happy family.” Do these phrases sound familiar? I am sure at some point on your motherhood journey you’ve heard at least one of those phrases. While I do agree that babies don’t keep, and we do need to make the most of the time while they are small, I propose an idea that will probably be an unpopular one. What if cleaning the mess is more important? Hear me out. What if the mess causes one to feel unproductive which causes mental tension? What if it creates so much anxiety that one cannot effectively parent? What if one...
We’re knee deep in the New Year! If you’re anything like me, that means spending this time getting your house in order. For my household, that looks like going through every drawer, closest, nook and cranky to reorganize and donate what we no longer use. So needless to say, I’ve been in that organization state of mind. Even in the grocery store. I was in the store for just a few things (biggest lie ever, right?) when the cutest box on an end cap of an aisle caught my eye. It caught my eye because the boxes were arranged in rainbow color and I’m a softie for the rainbow! In my mind I said, “that’s so neat” and kept...
A question was posed to me recently: Why are you filling every waking moment with a task? Outside of being obsessed with crossing things off my to-do list once accomplished, I couldn’t answer that question. Newsflash: You are not a bad mother or wife if every waking second is not filled with some task or chore to complete. I could delve into the psychology behind this, but I won’t. I will say this – I quickly realized that my husband and children aren’t going to end up unhappy, unfulfilled or in therapy because I didn’t fold a load of clothes at night instead of spending time with them. They will, however, remember that I didn’t spend time with them because I...

I Hate LAUNDRY

0
The truth is I decided now was a good time to blog because I have mountains of laundry screaming for my attention. Well, I despise doing laundry. I mean I do not enjoy one moment of sorting, folding, and putting clothes away. And I need a mental health day just to mate socks. I am pretty sure that the clothes in my house get up and "Second Line" their way into my laundry room. And as if we don't accumulate enough dirty laundry of our own, my son throws EVERYTHING in the laundry room. Put on a shirt to see if it matches his pants... throws it in the laundry. Sees neatly folded clothes in a pile waiting to be...
