Picture this: you are in a restaurant with your family having a lovely time when your child begins to have a meltdown because the food is taking too long. They’re..…bored. Or, say you are in the waiting room at the doctor’s office and your child begins to get antsy. You are on a road trip that is just a minute longer than the normal commute and cue the meltdown because, again, bored. Any of these scenarios sound familiar to you? All these scenarios are missing one thing- a busy bag.
A quiet/busy bag has been given many names, terms, and definitions but essentially it is a bag filled with items that can entertain your child in a quieter environment.

Some days I wake up ready to conquer the world. The laundry gets folded and put away, the dishes get washed and the house gets cleaned. The kids get limited TV time, the learning activities are on point, and I even squeeze a workout in during nap time. Then there are those days that don’t go according to plan. We stay in our jammies way too late (or all day if I’m being honest), toys clutter every room of the house, and the clothes are overflowing in the hamper. I rely on the TV as a babysitter, I use nap time to play on social media, and as a family, we spend too much money on takeout for dinner.

While there are silver linings to be found going from full speed to a tortoise’s crawl, the anticipation of momentous occasions such as graduation and prom have come to a screeching halt. While this is certainly hard and sad, there is one fact that has remained: our teacher’s dedication to their students has continued.
Being a teacher is one of the most multi-faceted professions where managing multiple situations (before even teaching can happen!) is the norm and rising to the occasion is expected. During this unprecedented crisis, it's no surprise that teachers have gotten really creative with distant learning (many who...
April 8, 2019.
That date probably has zero significance to any of you, but to me, it means a lot. That is the day my caboose baby was born. To say I was looking forward to planning the most extravagant first birthday party one last time would be a huge understatement! I love a good theme. I love decorating and crafting. And I love going all out (most of my friends call me extra). So when social distancing began nearly a month ago, I lived on a hope and a prayer that by my son’s birthday party date, things would die down and we would not have to cancel. With each update and as the numbers continued to rise, I...
