To give you a little back story, I am a mom to five boys. Five very different, very active (in their own ways), very BOY boys. Going into parenthood, I knew we would touch all the basics - baseball, football, basketball and maybe some soccer. We knew we’d let them “try it all” but little did we know how much more there really was.  Our family landed in track by chance. It was not ever on our radar and not ever anything we saw our boys trying. My oldest started a new school and was asked to give it a shot by a coach that was looking to build his team. The rest is history.  In our 7+ years of track,...

New Mom in Town

We at Red Stick Mom share guides to Baton Rouge that cover a wide range of interests, needs, and situations. One of our most popular posts is our tips for visiting Baton Rouge with kids. We make navigating the greater Baton Rouge area as easy as possible! Whether you are looking for where kids eat free in Baton Rouge or need to plan a birthday party, Red Stick Mom has you covered-even as a new mom! Being a new mom in town. Moving is hard. Summertime and salad go hand and hand, you know? I crave cold foods during the summer, I want crisp and light and flavorful! Gone are the days of salad being lame. A quick scour of the internet reveals that salads are filling and delicious, and pending your toppings, super healthy. Most of these are absolutely filling enough to serve for dinner. I have one kiddo that loves salad, but for the other...
Sometimes, it feels good to let it all out. To process, to free yourself of all the worries and thoughts that grate your nerves. It’s normal, it’s healthy, but depending on who your audience is- your deepest, most inner point of view, may land differently. Therapy is different than going to lunch with your friend. I say this with utmost confidence, as I have been working as a therapist for over the last ten years. And I have friends. Amazing, salt-of-the-earth people who are the most fun to share my latest gripes and mom victories. Nothing is more fun than venting to a tried-and-true BFF who gets it and will do me the favor of keeping it between us… and...

I remember loving my toddler's Lightning McQueen pair when he was three but never, EVER did I think I would see my 17 year old son and 11 year old daughter sporting Crocs most days they are not in school. You see, over the past year or so these shoes have made a HUGE comeback. Even at the mall the other night, most pre-teens to teenagers had on Crocs or some sort of slides. Now, hear me ... I do not hate them. There are some perks to these shoes, however, I never thought I would see them in STYLE. Things my kids love about Crocs (according to...
