Being a mom can be exhausting. Carrying around the emotional weight of all of your responsibilities in all of your roles can take a toll. Mom, wife, friend, daughter, sister, coworker, employee, support person, etc. Somewhere down that long list is the role that can get neglected most: Me. We act like everything is fine; when in reality, we're hanging on by a thread. We need to find others that can relate, or at least other stories that we can relate to, and luckily we have access at our fingertips.   Thanks, but No Thanks With any kind of medical situation, be it pregnancy, illness, or wellness one is often subjected to lots of, let’s call it, “feedback.” It may be...
It’s 2022 and people are ready to get back to making childhood milestones happen, like the family trip to Disney World. We JUST got back (like much of Louisiana), and I thought I would share the hits and misses of our Disney trip. Disney is a trip that is heavy on logistics. Having the right gear helps a lot … and is more economical if purchased prior to arriving at Disney. Here was my shopping list, based on the many mom blogs written before my time, and the actual result of having said items in Disney. Gear that was suggested: Magic band reinforcers (Lost by “helpers” before it got packed; probably would have been great considering the magic bands are flimsy and...
Did you know March is Social Work Month? If I were taking a guess, I would guess most people, unless related to a social worker, do not know this is the month to celebrate the amazing profession of social work. Being a social worker myself, I certainly could not let this month go by without singing praises to those continuing to show up day in and day out to a profession not for the faint of heart. What is Social Work? By far, social workers are most thought of as taking children away from their homes. Although child welfare is one sector of social work, the profession as a whole encompasses a magnitude of areas. The council on social work education...
I’m a law school student, and I’ve been spending a great deal of time around family law. This is a place where everyone has to give the person they are leaving a mental health diagnosis in order to justify pursuing a divorce. It seems like everyone has a narcissistic ex, even though only about 6% of our country’s population has been diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder. This isn’t just an issue in family law. People weaponize mental health terms in order to make themselves feel like “the right one,” the “good guy,” etc. Basically, we’ve all become that guy that says “That b**ch is crazy” about all of his exes, we’ve just found fancier words for it. Which made me realize how...
Date night has always been really important to me and my husband as an opportunity to reconnect, enjoy each other, and keep things spicy. But with the addition of our third child in 2020, plus Covid restrictions, and last year’s cancer treatment, we’ve had to get creative in our date nights. A couple of times a month, we plan an early bedtime for the kiddos and have a date night at home. And while we’ve recently enjoyed going out to dinner again more frequently, we have really come to enjoy date nights in. One important part of this is to schedule the date night and intentionally plan what we are going to do. It seems simple but I notice...
