Our family of five shares one TV that is in the living room. Along with only having one TV, we also only have Netflix, Hulu and a few other TV apps downloaded for the kids and for us. We’ve been without cable for over four years now, and have not once been tempted to go back. As a parent, it greatly reduces the amount of TV time. While we turn it on on Saturday and Sunday mornings to watch The Wiggles or Mickey while we eat pancakes, it’s rarely turned on until after the kids go to bed on weeknights. The time after dinner is reserved for sharing our days and goofing off as a family - a special time full of...
"Hey! Weren't you here yesterday?" I heard this today from the front desk clerk while checking in at our pediatrician's office.  Yes, yes, I was. With the other kid, but still. It feels like we live here. Thanks for asking. My kids are four and two. It feels like they are sick ALL. THE. TIME. I'm aware that germs spread through daycare pretty quickly because kids are just kinda gross - hands in my mouth, now in your mouth! Yay!! But good grief. The ten sick days that I was allotted at the beginning of the school year? Gone by Christmas break. God forbid that I get sick ... because my sick butt will be dragging itself to work and trying not...
I’m a huge fan of podcasts. I listen to them in the car, when I’m grocery shopping alone, when I’m doing mindless tasks, when I’m out walking in my neighborhood ... I have a degree in journalism, and in the mid-2000s podcasts were just being talked about as a new form of media. Back then, no one knew what a podcast was. Then several years ago, Serial emerged and was a huge hit, and I got hooked like everyone else. Since then, the podcast scene has exploded, and I love getting recommendations for new ones to try. I listen to a wide variety of podcasts that cover a range of topics, and here are some of my favorites: Mom and Dad...
The day started like any other busy weekday morning. My husband and I did our usual dance around the corner of the kitchen while we made breakfast for our crew. Once everyone had their food, Matt headed to the back to get ready for work, while the girls and I spent 30 minutes coming to terms with the fact that we had to be awake. (Not a morning person in the bunch!) Every morning, at least one of my three girls tries to convince me that she can’t go to school. This particular morning, it was my 6 year-old. She had a bit of cough, but who doesn’t this time of year? As I watched her sit on the...
Hopefully by this time you aren't KonMari'ed out yet! I read the book The Magic of Tidying Up last summer and spent the last month of my summer break purging and deciding what sparked joy in our home. I know the masses were introduced to Marie Kondo at the beginning of the year with her new show on Netflix, which was right around the six month mark for us. One thing the show doesn't explain is what happens after the cameras leave. We've seen on other reality type shows that involve some type of major life overhaul, a follow up to show the viewer if they have maintained that lifestyle. Now, Marie Kondo's show doesn't offer a follow up,...
