Right now, we social distancing from our son. I want to hug him goodnight. I want to give him a high-five when he finishes his school assignments. After I stepped back when he tried to hug me yesterday, he said: "I'm lonely." It's incredibly tough not to be able to wrap your kid in your arms, especially at a time like this. He has Cystic Fibrosis. As tough as staying away from him is, it is for his protection. Before anyone had any idea about COVID-19 and that we would be living during a pandemic, my own home had infectious disease fears. People we come in contact with are considered possibly dangerous. Hand sanitizing, mask-wearing, fear whenever we hear a cough,...
Just as you are now, I’ve read hundreds of blogs on being a mom. I admit that many of them are geared towards the single mom and often times it leaves me wondering if I’m doing something wrong as a “married mom.” Now this is not to slight single moms at all, because I truly tip my hat to your ability to balance it all without the help of a mate. However, often times that balancing act becomes overwhelming to me as well. The mounds of laundry, endless activities, hours of homework, play dates, etc. And then being a wife. If I am being totally honest, there are days that I want to crawl UNDER my bed and hide...
What do you say to your family when you are not sure if it will be the last thing you say? A little back story: In November, I got a cold and my left ear clogged up. I assumed it was all related, but after 3 ENT visits, 2 hearing tests, 1 CT scan, 1 MRI scan and a visit with a neurologist, we discovered it was a little bit more then that. There is a small bone missing around my brain and it is causing spinal fluid to leak into my left ear. This, of course, leads to several concerns like the possibility of a brain infection and hearing loss. The ending result to all of the tests and...
Something about a new year makes me reevaluate my life. Whether you set goals or have a word of the year to go by, I think we can all agree that we love to save money! There are a few things I have done to line up our budget this year. We cut cable. It has now ALMOST been a year. We stream Netflix, Hulu ESPN and Disney+ but are saving $100 per month ($1,200.00 per year) NOT paying for cable. Our biggest concern was watching sports …we DO live in Louisiana after all. The ESPN app has everything that we need; we also have an antenna for anything that comes on major channels. We have two set days...
Growing up, my family didn’t necessarily have traditions for the holidays. We always woke up to my mom cooking Christmas dinner while we opened up Christmas gifts or we always went to my grandmother's house to celebrate with family. However, we didn't have what some people consider holiday traditions like Elf on the Shelf, Chinese food the night before Thanksgiving, reading A Cajun Christmas book every year, going around the table to say what you are thankful for, making homemade ornaments every Christmas or buying certain types of ornaments every year. My husband is an only child and comes from a smaller family while I come from a mother who is one of ten, so lots of aunts and...
