When I found out my firstborn was a boy, the thing I heard most often was "Boys love their mommas." I wasn't given much advice beyond the occasional "boys take longer to potty train." Yeah right, my boys were both fully potty trained by 26 months, thank you. Yet, no one mentioned that boys love to take things apart, typically by throwing them on the ground; or their love for bugs come in two varieties, squish them or keep them.  I didn't know that they will literally keep moving to stay awake, often kicking their legs up and over their head. I've threatened more times than I'd like to admit to "wrap them in a burrito" so they could just stay...
So I’m a crafty mom. One that loves the invention of Pinterest, but if I’m honest, I’d be just as over the top without it. I doodle lunch notes for my school kids. Everyday. Everyday, I’ve only missed one. I Elf on the Shelf with the best of them and I draw pictures with pancakes, make handmade Halloween costumes, and thoroughly enjoy school free days. We’ve all seen those random stories circling the web of the dad that doodles amazing lunch bags, moms that make extravagant lunches, the mom whose Elf legitimately walks around the house. And the comments that follow are how shallow they are. Who has the time?! Surely they don’t work a real job. Here’s the thing,...
Doctor appointments. Special school assignments. PTO events. Homework schedules. Work deadlines. Dentist appointments. Parent / teacher conferences. After school schedules. My days are jammed packed with activities and without my bullet journal, my days would be a mess. Some may ask, “What is a bullet journal?” The beauty is that a bullet journal is whatever you want it to be. You can use it to store immediate to-do lists and future plans or goals or use it to keep track of important events. You can also use it to keep track of your meal plan and shopping lists or to manage your mental health. You can even use it to keep track of your future business endeavors. I love bullet...
Today we celebrate Earth Day! It is at least one day of the year that we spend more time focusing on taking care of this wonderful planet we live on. As a mother of 3 and former science teacher, I try and take full advantage of these type of days. Celebrating Earth Day with kids is not only easy, but so much fun! You know those sayings 'You can take the ____ out of the _____, but ____ will always be _____.' Well, the same goes for teachers. You can take us out of the school system, but there is always going to be that 'teacher' part of us that just has to teach. My kids have no choice in...

Let Them Be Helpers

“Mommy, can I help you?” I hear this sweet question from my daughter every single day. And as much as possible, I want my answer to be “Yes.”   There are definitely times that my daughter’s help could be considered less than helpful – it takes her much longer to do a task than it would take me to just do it myself, and when we are cooking in the kitchen, she makes more of a mess than I would make by myself. I can understand why a lot of moms would simply say, “Not this time; go play.” I get it. Letting them help is a lot of work.  But here’s why I say letting them help is worth the hassle.  (1) It teaches...
