6:15. It's time. My eyes peep open, and I can see the light blue of the morning sky through the window. I have to try harder today. I will. I will try harder than yesterday. I will do better. Coffee warms my bones, and I begin to perk up. The morning still feels so daunting, despite the promise I made to myself when I got up. I go through the motions of dressing kids, signing papers for school, getting myself dressed but I want so badly to crawl back into that bed, turn out every light and sleep it all away.  Instead, I eagerly wash down the pills I always hope will magically take this from me, but instead they just...
A lot of time has passed since my last twins related post. As a new mom of twins, I was learning to juggle being a wife, career woman, and mom to three. Now, a half of year later, I feel like I have lived three lifetimes. It’s been both rewarding and mentally exhausting as we’ve navigated discussion after discussion, hoping we were making the right decisions. One difficult choice we recently had to make was whether the twins would be kept together or separate at daycare. The twins have been at their daycare since 12 weeks old. From 12 weeks to 20 months, they made every move together. From the infant room to the crawler room, from the wobblers room to the...

Studio Saturdays:: Having Fun at Louisiana Art & Science Museum Louisiana Art & Science Museum has this awesome new exhibit: Picturing Vivian Maier A Street Photographer Revealed (January 23-May 22) This exhibit is so cool, Vivian Maier was a nanny with a knack for photography. So as she nannied in places like New York & Chicago, she carried her camera with her and “developed” quite the collection of candid photographs. In line with paying homage to Vivian & her craft, LASM is hosting Studio Saturdays, a new series of interactive workshops with a different theme each month. February's theme was Learning to Look and took the kids on a scavenger...
Carnival season’s finally here, It’s Louisiana’s time of year. In her purple, green, and gold she will shine, And we’ll wave napkins to the second line!   From wagons we will make tiny floats for school. The children will sit and the parents will pull. Our hard work will be paraded and shown  As they throw beads from their feathery thrones.   School will let out for Fat Tuesday. Here it’s a week-long holiday!  There’ll be balls, masquerades, parades, throws, Elaborate floats with krewes and flambeaus.   King cake for breakfast, king cake for dessert. Need a good one?  I’m a king cake expert. We’ve tried the king cakes from every store, And when it’s gone we go and get some more.   I’ll bring my kids down to New Orleans  To see the Mardi Gras kings and queens. Carts will...
I’m the oldest of three children so I never believed in the “middle child syndrome.” When I heard stories told by middle children, I always thought that they were misreading the situation. That was until I had my own children. Now that I am a mother of three, I see what causes the “middle child syndrome.” At times, I feel that I have a stronger connection with my oldest because I’ve known him the longest. He’s older and can process certain things better than my other children. We also share a lot of inner jokes.   My youngest, although three, is still considered my baby. I’m always in protection mode because I feel that out of all of my children, she is...
