Ohhhh what a day we had had! It was a gorgeous Thursday. We spent the majority of the day playing outside, there were giggles and belly laughs and literally all the fun was had. We had a successful dinner- you know where you don't have to beg, bribe, and barter to get your kiddos to eat that meal that you have spent time, energy, and money preparing. The whole afternoon had been magical. It deserved a magical reward. So we offered up "Waffles House" (as the 4-year-old refers to it) the next morning for breakfast. He was ecstatic. "I DOOO LOOOVVVEEE the Waffles House!" He must have told us at least 500 times. We put the boys to bed, I...
I cannot watch serious TV if there are super serious emotional things happening in real life. I need lighthearted, comedy, silly, goofy, witty television shows like New Girl, Parks and Rec, The Office, Community, Friends, Psych, etc. I was told by multiple people to watch this little Canadian comedy on Netflix called Schitt’$ Creek. It is filled with humor, real life mess, unique startup businesses, crazy town-folk, detailed character development, wit, and very moving moments of love and acceptance. Schitt’s Creek is just the schitt you need to be watching right now. The premise of the show is the husband and wife, Johnny and Moria Rose (played by Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara), are very very wealthy and suddenly find themselves...
There’s so much talk about COVID-19 in the present, but what about once we can leave our homes again?  Moms are going to need a break. They are going to need to decompress. Now, before the “they’re your kids group” starts protesting, KNOW THIS.... we love our children. And truthfully, there are very few people we trust more than ourselves with them. However, just like a good workout, rest is necessary.  Personal time is necessary. So when the Social Distancing is lifted, reach out to a mom.  She will need you.  It doesn’t matter if she is a single mom, a married mom, a mom living with her mom, a rich mom, or an economically disadvantaged mom...she will need you. ...
Right now, we social distancing from our son. I want to hug him goodnight. I want to give him a high-five when he finishes his school assignments. After I stepped back when he tried to hug me yesterday, he said: "I'm lonely." It's incredibly tough not to be able to wrap your kid in your arms, especially at a time like this. He has Cystic Fibrosis. As tough as staying away from him is, it is for his protection. Before anyone had any idea about COVID-19 and that we would be living during a pandemic, my own home had infectious disease fears. People we come in contact with are considered possibly dangerous. Hand sanitizing, mask-wearing, fear whenever we hear a cough,...
Just last week we were living our lives as normal. We were at work, kids were at school, life as usual. If we needed groceries, we went to the grocery store. If we needed to get out of the house, we did so. This week, we are all home quarantined and social distancing. Everyone's world has been flipped upside down. Working from home. No school. Staying away from everyone who isn't immediate family. No normalcy what so ever. As a nurse, I completely understand why we are doing this. As a mother, I'm just left feeling so incredibly uneasy. Uneasy because when we left school on Friday, we hadn't planned for it to possibly be our last day of the year...
